The Melting Pot

So, my little sister turned 13 yesterday and our family (Mom, Dad, sister, and myself...as well as my girlfriend and one of my sister's friends) went out to eat at The Melting Pot to celebrate.
Let me start off by saying that the place was absolutely dead at 6pm. We had reservations just in case, but certainly didn't need them.
We ordered 2 different types of cheeses: 1 Fiesta and 1 Spinach and Artichoke. I was disappointed in the Fiesta but the S&A cheese was very good.
We all got salads and decided that the best one was the Caesar. Others got California, House, and Spinach and Mushroom.
For our entrees, we got 3 of the different selections. 2 were the ones with lobster (can't remember the name) which ran at $85 and we got 1 of the other which ran at $65.
Aside from tediously having to cook our own minuscule servings of different meats, nothing really stood out to me. I absolutely hated having to cook the food because we could only had 2 different bite sized pieces in at the same time and would have to wait 2 minutes between every bite of food.
The drinks were good (we had a lot of them...not my sister and her friend, though...
) and the service was really good...but aside from that, the food just wasn't worth the hassle IMO.
I will never go back there again unless it was for dessert and drinks.
And by the way, the bill (without tip) was 401.52...for 6 people.
Ridiculous.
Overall, I give it a D.

ate there for the old lady's birthday and found the food to be disgusting. If you think about it, you're eating poached meat. The broth we cooked our food in provided little flavor to the meat. I will never even think about eating there again.

The only decent thing is the dessert.

That's like saying you don't like going to Fox and the Hound because they have too many TVs and you don't like music playing while you eat. Its a Sports Bar, of course its going to have TVs and Music playing. Every fondue restaurant is the same set up. Ive been to Melting Pot and Colorado Fondue (orlando) and 75% of the enjoyment comes from the setting and atmosphere of the fondue style. This ist a place you go hang out with your buddies at.

i honestly dunno how that place does as well as it does ... it is expensive as the frick .. no way you can eat there more than once or twice a year ... and you forgot to mention how bad your clothes and hair smell when you leave ..

Bingo. That's the secret to The Melting Pot. Skip the totally-not-worth-it entrees.

It's almost like you went to a fondue restaurant or something...

it'd be nice to have more than 2 skewers and below average bite sized portions...

That's what fondue is.
It's supposed to be a long table experience...as much about the company at your table as the food, meaning only a couple skewers per person. The bite size portions (I'm hoping you mean the pieces of food you cook vs. the meal as a whole) is so the food preperation is easy, and it doesn't take your time away from hanging out with your group.
I get that it's not for everybody, I just happen to dig it, but admittedly, I don't eat at Melting Pot very often.

i enjoyed the experience, but if i want to hang out with my friends or my family, we can do that at our house. if i want to eat a meal and NOT spend 400 dollars, I'll happily go somewhere else...

Fair enough.
