An exaggerated valuation of the transfer portal. Especially in football. The core of every LSU football team should be high school players recruited from Louisiana and Texas. Select Florida, Georgia, and MS recruits as well.

There has been an over correction when it comes to how much teams rely on the portal. Great high school recruits who are in the program for 2-4 years should still be the core of your roster.

No.

The core of every LSU baseball team should be the best players in the country.

Our best players have been from Florida and California, with a couple of LA, GA, and TX guys rounding it out.

This season has more LA contributors than last season.

Great high school recruits don't stay in your program if they aren't starting year 1.

Most great high school recruits who start year 1 tend to be 2 year guys.

You can't just rely on your recruiting classes staying together and supplementing with the portal like you can in football. You have to be in a position to get the best players from around the country in June. LSU was not in that position last year.

Last year’s team leaned on transfers more than this year’s team.

It would be ideal if the core of every LSU baseball team included the best players in the country. No one denies that.

We just aren’t there this year. And we won’t be every year. Even the best don’t evaluate every player correctly.

As an evaluator, you have to give yourself as many chances as possible to evaluate players.

We're not really disagreeing. I just don't think you should priorotize LA as a rule.

You should prioritize the best players who play in the best leagues. Sometimes the Catholic league is the best league in the state and you should go get those kids. Most of the time it's going to be a league in FL or the league Orange Lutheran (Curiel highschool) plays in in CA. Then you go get the best players in TX and supplement around the country.

Football, I agree with generally prioritizing LA talent and supplementing with TX/FL/GA kids, making exceptions for the better players around the country. Baseball is just a different animal. You can find an Odell or Nabers who plays no one in HS and dominates at the next level. That happens far far less in baseball.

Football was a very poor OL with very poor evaluation of DL transfers.

Portal is as important as HS recruits you just need better evaluation!

Now, if the portal rules change then HS recruiting certainly becomes more important and hopefully that is what happens.
