He was an average defender at best with some pop but certainly nothing incredible.

What? Our best and most consistent hitters in conference play have been our two catchers.
Their defense needs work, but they are tearing the cover off of the ball.
The biggest reasons the team is terrible is (1) their best pitcher got one weekend in conference play; and (2) they got a late start to the portal. That's it.
