I have a 2019 f150 with sync3. My APIM has all the symptoms of it going out. The ford dealership is quite proud of them if you get it there.
Does anyone have any experience buying a used one and swapping it out or getting a refurbished one?
I know they have to be programmed to your VIN. Can i do that or can only dealership do that?
Tried the tech board but no response.

That’s crazy. I just had my apim module replaced yesterday. It went out and completely screwed up my sync. It was stuck on a split screen and very annoying. Changed how many favorites you could save to six.
Luckily I bought a bumper to bumper extended warranty. It would have cost $1,500 plus. Incredibly Group 1 Ford in Shitport did an excellent job and was very easy to deal with. Amazing.

It’s a widespread problem. Had a 2017 F150 and had the APIM replaced twice under warranty, once more after the warranty expired. Since I was a loyal customer the dealership covered the third, thank you Robinson Brothers in BR.
To my knowledge Ford never issued a recall, they 100% should have.
I have a 2022 F150 now that I’ve had for 3 years, no issues whatsoever.

How’s your experience been with group 1 ford if you’ve had anything else done? I took my truck in for an oil change and tire rotation at Wray in Bossier and they told me they couldn’t rotate the tires because their sockets wouldn’t fit my lugs. I thought that was crazy and went out to the shop and found that they didn’t take the fake chrome wheel skins off. They said it wasn’t just a hub cap so I just pulled one off and then they said oh okay but I didn’t want them doing anything else to my truck after that. I’ve also heard mixed things about group 1’s service department.

Order a bag of acorn nuts from Amazon and have them changed at next tire rotation. Don’t even think about taking the metal film of the oem lug nuts.

I’m fairly certain that what you’re talking about is the problem with the lug nuts themselves having a plastic coating and stripping. These guys at Wray ford just didn’t take the wheel cover off and couldn’t get a socket around the lug. It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever seen.

This was the first time I’ve used them and AJ in service was awesome. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. I’m sure only one trip won’t give me the full picture but it was a surprisingly good experience.

Thanks and good to hear. After that experience at Wray I won’t be going back to them.

Yeah…..ive watched videos until blue in the face. Was wondering about person experience of swapping them out or getting a pre-programmed or a used one and getting it programmed.
Some show getting a used one and self programming with ForScan.

The one place to go for all F150 questions is...
https://www.f150forum.com/
I had two F150's over the last 20 yrs and this site never let me down. Site is run by experts... not Ford.

Ford has a real problem with their entertainment system. I had a 2016 F150 and the whole system was fried after a year. Sometimes wouldn't even turn on.
Also had a 2023 Bronco and it had issues too. Just wouldn't play music sometimes. Now in a chevy, and their entertainment system seems superior.

I got rid of mine as soon as the APIM went out. It went out the same time a tire sensor went out and the horn stopped working (not a fuse). All about 6 months after it was parked next to a tree that was struck my lightning. with 125k miles and a $3 repair estimate (most of which was the APIM) I traded it in and moved on to something else. No way I was going to put that kind of money into a 8 year old truck knowing next up was likely the transmission.

They have sync 2 to sync 3 conversion sellers all over eBay. You can contact them and see if they would just send you a module. They are able to program them.
