10 year contract to a 60 year old coach that usually got demolished by SEC competition.

And a 7 year contract for a coach from Murray St? Crazy for a coach from a mid major to get that kinda deal stepping up to the big leagues.

He totally blew the big two sports hires and cost lsu over 60 something million.

I thought he would be great but his propensity for dumb arse long term contracts worried me esp since we saw TX A&M football.

It’s easy when you control the purse strings. He chose poorly and now we’re better off as a result.

It didn’t seem like a disaster at the time since we were getting rid of Joe Alleva in the process.

He was pretty bad but Gator fans would take him in a heartbeat over Scott Stricklin.

Woodward was a disaster but there’s much worse out there.

Originally I thought it was a great hire, but over time, it turned out to be a bust for the BK and MM hires. However, he did well with KM and JJ. So, I give him a C-.

I give Verge a lot of credit for snatching up the coaches fans have been loudly begging for, but if there's a knock, Verge's 7-year contracts are not much better than Woodward's 10-year bullshite.

Both contracts should've been no more than 5 years, preferably just 3 or 4. You can always extend if the production is there, or cut bait cheaply. How has Verge & LSU not learned that shite can go south in a heartbeat (CEO/BK) and/or never get off the ground (McMahon)???

Who could have known that Woody would have Carville and Gov Edwards giving him his orders.

SEC West Title and a Heisman Trophy.

Not saying everything was wine and roses, but it wasn't 100% smoking crater either.

He was better than what he replaced honestly. Regardless of bad hires, bad luck or outright intentional bad decisions the bottom line is we were not good in the sports that make money. He was the leader, he had many years to get it right and didn’t. That much meh under his watch is ultimately his responsibility. So no matter how it happened it happened because he allowed it. So disastrous for those programs which ultimately fund the rest of the programs.

He brought in Mulkey and JJ. Verge brought in CLK and brought back WW, and we don't know how either one will be just yet, so the verdict is still out on Verge.

You guys understand the coaches have more bargaining power than the schools right? Coaches want longer contracts with big buyouts attached, if youre a school after a hot commodity coach you can only push back so much

That sec west title was still a 4 loss team at the end of the day. Including an embarrassing loss to a 5-7 Texas A&M team. Hiring Kelly was an utter disaster.

It was not a disaster at all. There is so much luck involved in the sucess of any sports team that all coaching hires are hit-or-miss. The market dictates that you have to garantee long-term contracts with astronomical money nowadays in order to hire a competent coach.
