Looking back on the BK hire

Was he to old when we hired him?
I know it's easy to say now. In his 60 starting over at a new school.
Especially in the SEC where football is life in a lot of places.
To old lacked worth ethic to coach in the SEC.
Looking back on it now do y'all think he was to old to hire?

No. But he thought lsu could just do the work for him based on name brand
He didn’t put the work in
He wasn’t a bad coach. I’ve seen far worst in my lifetime at lsu
He was just lazy and a bad fit for our program

He failed for a myriad of reasons, but being 60yo isn't one of them.

His formula for winning quickly went the way of the dinosaur with the tPortal and since he had a fully guaranteed 10 year deal, no real motivation to try a new approach
He thought he could come here, LSU would recruit itself in a talent rich state, and he’d have more talent at his disposal than ever before….but NIL and the portal required more active management, so Scott forced Austin Thomas on him because it was clear Kelly was not going to actively engage in that type of roster management.

With 20/20 hindsight we should have hired Lane
He wanted the job
To be honest, I was not in favor of hiring Lane at that time. I am happy we hired him this time and he didn't Steve Spurrier us
I thought that Lincoln was the hire and I thought he would be good

If an 80 Year Old man can be President, a 60 Year Old man can be a Head Coach

I'm not saying 60 is old. Was it to old to start over with a new team in the toughest conference in the country.

No. He was lazy. Had nothing to do with his age. Nothing else needs to be said about his tenure here. Everything he did was lazy and cost LSU millions. His hiring blunders, his tAlignment, his recruiting, game preparation, everything.
Downside to LSU is they give their coaches control which in BK's case was a massive mistake as you saw with just the first defensive staff. Fired Raymond, Baker for House staff only to rehire them. Should've listened to the warning signs from Cain the former DL coach at LSU.

Saban dominated the conference in his 60s. Age has nothing to do with it. Was about personal motivation. BK was arrogant and entitled stuck in his ways while also being lazy.

His contract was not incentivized to succeed either. BK was in over his head and hit his peak in the 2010s, just a sloppy long term hire.
BK did bridge the gap from disastrous post 2019 era to now, so I’ll give him that. That contract was absurd

Curt Cignetti is the same age as BK
Posted on 3/30/26 at 3:33 pm to boweswi05
Being 60 is not that old for a head coach. Curt Cignetti is currently 64 and is in the middle of the most impressive turnarounds in cfb history. I think BK had it in his head that it would be easy, and when it wasn't he checked out. He seemed to think he would get a lot more time to get things going than he ended up getting and there just never was a sense of urgency.
To emphasize that, look how Lance handled the QB recruiting in the portal. Most folks were resigned to the fact he would get 1 big name and then have to settle for guys willing to be backups. Instead he went out and landed 3 big names and turned the complete 3 year outlook of the position around. Thats urgency. No excuses, no wait til next years, he just went out and started swinging for the fences.

Yeah I think he would have, he had been successful everywhere he’d been previously.
No guarantees he ever gets over the hump even then, he had issues offensively…Jayden was more of an outlier and didn’t truly take off until they had to let him loose because the defense was such a joke

Too old for a 10yr fully guaranteed contract that’s for dang sure

Kiffin also has guys that want to play for him so you need both the bag of cash and that
Guys here under Kelly seemed purely here for the check, all else was secondary
