As a huge Rush fan I've been waiting to see the new look with drummer Anika Nilles have the impossible task of following Neil Peart.

They made a surprise appearance at the "Juno Awards". They opened with the first song from their first Album "Finding My Way".

Very happy to see them back.

Well, can't compare her to Neil yet as they played a Rutsey song.

I'm sure she is fine. She seems capable. The one thing I notice is there was a power to Neil's drumming that she lacks. And that is not something you can emulate just by micing the kit and turning up the volume. It is different. Not something a lot of folks will notice, but its there.

Can't believe Geddy wanted to do a first song with such high parts in it, even though it was obviously downtuned probably a whole step. Maybe he sounds a little bit better than 11 years ago, but I still couldn't listen to that straining voice for 2 hours.

Anywho, good luck to them on their money grab.

Also, everyone is curious about the drummer, but they also have another new band member. They have a keyboard player. Can't remember the guy's name.

I think playing a non- Neil Peart Song was a good move as an introduction. No one can ever replace Neil. I thought Geddy sounded good for a guy 72 years old.

What you call a money grab I call a love letter to the fans

Of course. Probably better than 11 years ago. And he is a good singer. It is just the sound of his voice and he really sounds like he is straining all the time. It just gives it a whiny sound that I can't take for very long. Props though. I have trouble singing two songs before my voice starts to go.

They ain't playing for free. Plus, go look up a copy of the p/g anniversary edition. I wanted to get a copy of it after hearing some of the Terry Brown remixes. The damn thing is $300. Why can't I just buy a remix CD? I don't need stickers and shite. Even with 4 CD and DVD of the concert, $300 is way too damn high.

I also wish he would go back to his #1 Jazz bass. I am not a big fan of the tone he gets with that green one. A lot of it is his Sansamp, but the bass plays into the tone as well.

Ok, I'll quit throwing them under the bus. And I'll always be a huge fan. Listening to them right now and do so almost every day.

I’m beyond thrilled to see RUSH return to the stage. I’m going to both shows at the Hard Hotel in Palm Beach later this year. It’s a small venue so it will be a great show.

Nobody can ever replace Neil Peart. Anika is her own style of drummer and she needs to stick to that. She’s more than capable of being the drummer using her own style.

No one does, that doesn’t make it a “money grab” which kind of implies mailing it in or desperately needing cash which I don’t think is the case.

listening to interviews over the years I think Geddy and Alex wanted to keep recording and touring but Neil did not, they had to talk him into to doing the R40 tour, Neil wanted to retire after the Clockwork Angels tour. They have also mentioned they did not get to do a real tribute to Neil after his passing because Covid hit. When they played together for the first time in years at the Taylor Hawkins tribute I believe them when they say they were rejuvenated, I think they just want to play again, so they do a tour to celebrate 50 years and honor Neil, nothing wrong with that even though they will make money.

*And please note the cost of the tickets is distorted by secondary markets, the face value is inline with concerts these days.

This

I've followed Rush since I saw them in perform in the Moving Pictures tour (my High School) and from everything I've ever read about these guys is they're pretty grounded and checked their egos at the door. Money is not an issue. They're lifelong friends who genuinely like playing and performing.

Another thing I thought is, the R40 tour was 2015, they were only 62. They’ve been doing it for their entire lives.
It’s understandable Neil wanted to walk away and spend time with his wife and young daughter. But for Alex and Geddy they weren’t ready for retirement, there’s only some many book tours you can do, after 10 years I’m sure boredom was a factor and at 72 it’s pretty now or never to perform again.

Thinking about it and seeing what I’ve seen, freaking everywhere, today, bless that girl on them drums. She did good and she had almost every eyeball in the world on her. Talk about pressure. I don’t know how I’d do under that intense pressure. Props.

Also, she is kind of scary. She looks like a demon.

She's been around for several years now in progressive drumming circles. Very good player. Tasteful with the ability to find the groove and lock in.
