Just think, a remake would have a black girlboss, gender-fluid thing, a white girl, a Hispanic boy, a Muslim boy, a mixed race boy (with a crush on the Muslim boy), and the bullies and killer and unpleasant people would be white.

I somehow forgot the second kid was River Phoenix.
I remembered the fat kid was Jerry O'Connell and the lead was Will Wheaton. Kiefer Sutherland was still in the phase of his career where he only played villains

They would obviously have a scene showing a black Ray Brower getting hit by the train. The train engineer would be white, and the movie would show him saying “take that, (N-word with a hard R)”.
