My favorite story of redemption was from 1450 when Cosimo Medici spoke to Pope Eugenius about his soul.
Medici: 'I fear that my soul is lost and I cannot be saved. What can I do, your Holiness?'
Pope: 'Well, $10,000 could not hurt.'
Medicini: 'Wonderful! Cash or check?'
