Spectrum bait and switch?

Two days ago I received a message in the mail from
Spectrum that my internet cost would go up to 85 dollars a month effective the next day.
In the afternoon mail was a mailing from Spectrum offering internet for 50 a month for a year. I called the number and requested that plan and was told that was for new customers. Told him no where did that appear.
The agent tried selling me a phone bundle and I ended the call. I have brightspeed coming next week.
Rant over.

Spectrum raises their internet prices every year. You can call and negotiate a lower rate when they do that. I got tired of it and switched to T-Mobile 5G home internet which is cheaper by a significant amount and faster.

That type of billing should be outlawed in the name of equal billing. A product should have one price and not one for one person and another for another person or group. What to say some of these providers could charge more in minority areas verses rich affluent areas.

It could be worse. At least you don't have COX.
The Spectrum/Cox merger will actually make most people's bills in Baton Rouge go down, plus they will remove data caps that Cox imposes. That's how bad Cox has been screwing people here.

Do better gramps. They bumped mine up to $85. I told them AT&T was going to give me a new customer deal for around $50. Spectrum gave it to me for $30 for a year.

I have 1gig speed and home phone and was paying 125 for it. called to cancel home phone, and they locked me into 75 a month and kept the home phone.

I got tired of their shite last fall and cancelled. Took 45 minutes listening to some bitch give me offer after offer. Finally let me cancel. Best decision I've made in a while.

You have to threaten to cancel to get the better rate.
After speaking with the first dumbass that just reads off a script you need to wait until you’re forwarded to the retention department. That’s when you get to negotiate.
It’s better to have a little knowledge of some comparative pricing and just start negotiating from there. I ended up getting 1 gig internet speed for $49.99/month inclusive of all fees and taxes. I ended up switching after a year because the internet still sucked but I stayed that long because of the deal I got.
If you’ve got a little time, it can be worth the haggle.

I currently have this same plan … except Spectrum is only giving me 300mbs per their speed test. To OP's point, Bait and Switch.
The plan is to call them during an LSU baseball game so it won't matter how long I have to wait.

This, I just did it and got my monthly bill down from $90 to $30 for 500mbps and locked in that rate for 3 years.
