A couple of months ago I dug up some white oaks that were maybe a foot tall and planted them on my property.
They had just leafed out and it got down to just below freezing. Now all the leaves look brown and dead.
Did it kill the young trees?

probably not. Will just take it a little bit to grow and get more leaves

I have a few trees here at my house that were starting to green up when the freezing temps hit last week.

Still are not greening up yet but they will.

Maybe, if they were that young. You'll have to watch them closely over the next year or so. Even if they come back, sometimes, a freeze will stunt their growth by not allowing them to grow at their normal rate.

Odds are they are fine. Something that I discovered this year is mossy oak’s nativ nursery sells tree tubes that are made specifically to get them over the initial fragile stage, basically a thin plastic tube that acts as a mini green house and gets them to 48+” in the first year. Planted 10 live oaks this winter and they’ve already added a foot in the tube, highly recommend them.

If they do make it, are you saying possible stunted growth for just this season? Or permanently?

Did the dead leaves fall off the tree, or did they stay? Typically if they fall off, the tree is still alive. They are most likely fine, as others have said. Give them some time.

Thanks everyone. I will keep an eye on them and report back. The leaves are still on the tree brown and dry.

Scratch the bark with your fingernail. If it’s green underneath you’re good
