WTF. Remember this freak?

quote:

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Benjamin Beale, the Ninth Ward man accused four years ago of the dismemberment murder of a woman whose frozen torso was found on his property, was allowed to plead guilty last month to a lesser charge of manslaughter, Orleans Parish court records show.

Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams’ office did not publicize the resolution of the case, which spared Beale a potential life sentence. Beale pleaded guilty to the lesser charge, which carries a potential prison term of up to 40 years, and was sentenced to just 30 years by Criminal District Court Judge Benedict Willard on Feb. 3, records show.

Orleans Justice Center jail records showed Beale was transferred from the New Orleans lockup to a state prison facility on Tuesday (March 24).

The Orleans DA’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Maybe you make a deal because you’re not sure you can get a conviction- but if the torso is on the property- it’s got to be a pretty strong case, right?

All the lead paint in New Orleans caused mental retardation at levels seen nowhere else.

I wonder how he got a deal????

quote:

Beale’s father, Paul Beale, has a master’s degree in geophysics from Stanford University and is senior vice president of multiple oil and gas companies, including Contour Energy E&P and Samson Exploration, according to his LinkedIn account and public records. He owns houses in Texas assessed at $1.4 million and $833,040; a house in Montana worth $339,801, and a house in Oklahoma worth $165,700, plus multiple boats, according to public records from assessors' websites.

A former occupational therapy assistant and Lutheran youth pastor, Beale’s mother, Zeal Beale, owns multiple properties, too: a house in New Orleans assessed at $352,000, a townhouse in Los Angeles assessed at $681,991, and a house in Pensacola worth $205,816, according to public records from assessor’s websites

Local news generates almost all of their crime related news through press releases from law enforcement and district attorneys.

There was a decent chance Jason Williams could slip this plea bargain past the public if his office didn’t publicize it. I’m sure that was his goal.

Props to the local news for catching it and reporting on it.

Seemed pretty strong considering he kept the remains in a powered freezer in a bus in his backyard.
quote:

…Julia Dardar…, whose partial remains were found in a deep freezer kept powered in a bus parked in the back yard of Beale’s home in the 2300 block of Pauline Street.

Police said a clandestine methamphetamine lab also was found in Beale’s kitchen. When the 34-year-old Beale refused to answer questions about the corpse, he was booked Tuesday with obstruction of justice in a death investigation, illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of controlled dangerous substances, distribution of methamphetamine, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, and two counts of creating/operating a clandestine drug lab, according to court records.
