seriously, is anybody watching the combine? all of these guys like tyson jackson, ali highsmith and shite run 4.6s and 4.7s coming out of high school and by the time they leave here they're slower than a jay roth special teams unit. not to mention how he failed the dorsasaurus last year.

this has been talked about a hundred times. These kids aren't running 4.7s out of high school legitimately. They are typically hand-timed by a coach or scout who has it in their best interest to have faster times.

For most, this is the first time they have ever been laser timed. And if you think Moffit failed Dorsey then you are an idiot.

Though I do feel that sometimes LSU bulks their guys up a little too much BUT have you ever considered that these 40 times coming out of HS might be a "little inflated"...

That being said, I think a 4.9 for a 300# SS DE is not too bad.

FWIW, TJ was not all that highly recruited out of HS so if any thing LSU helped him improve on his potential as a player.

No way Tyson Jackson could have ever run a sub 4.7.

How is he supposed to make them more than marginally faster than they are when he gets them? I've heard he focuses on lifts that are more useful for football, but are not part of the combine.

hmmm maybe making them stronger? look at the weights of most of the linemen coming out of high school (prob inflated) then look at their weights now. a shitload of muscle mass and weight has been gained which means they aren't going to be as fast carrying that weight. the 40 times coming out of high school are also heavily inflated.

how many times will a lber or d-lineman run 40 yards in a straight line? quickness, explosiveness, football speed, and strength are more important imo.

you named two people and a 4.9 isn't bad for a d-lineman tyson's size. shite show me a history of 10-15 people then we will talk

Doesn't he have like 4 or 5 total?

ETA: He really screwed Laron Landry and Dwayne Bowe over too.

hey ranter- does is really take much to put weight on high schoolers who still aren't close to being fully developed coming in?? the great ones are able to put weight on players and not lose much speed. moffit is obviously not one of those.

my solution would be to hire tom shaw. imagine if we had put big herm in his program??

moffitt = POWER TOOL

then he's not doing his job. i'm pretty sure miles & co pitch LSU as being a facilitator to the nfl. he's failing in that aspect. we get a lot of players there on pure talent, but moffit doesn't put them in position to vault up the draft boards like other schools. the lack of preparation our players get for the draft is embarrassing.
