Catena Safaris Argentina - Anyone been?

I've been told I won a four day hunt and two day dorado fishing trip in Argentina from a drawing at the SCI show last month. The company is "Catena Safaris". I am reading mixed things on the internet about their wire payments and lots of hidden fees. Also that "win" might be free lodging but the rest is all paid. I fully understand that I have to buy the transportation, that's fine, but it sounds like everything but the lodging might be on me? Thoughts?

So I’m in the same boat. Different guide service but it sounds the same. The thing you won basically just pays for food and lodging. ( which saves some) but it’s definitely not all that advertised. When do you plan on going? We’re looking may 27

From the looks of their website, its big game hunting?
Regardless of if it is a big game hunt or birds, the hidden fees (or not hidden, and just excessive) are kinda the norm down there. I've been a handful of times and have seen the landowner fees, transportation fees, license fees, special access permit fees, etc. What's funny is that if you actually purchase the hunt from the outfitter directly (vs. on a donated hunt) the fees seem to go down/disappear. My last trip down there, I asked if I could get a copy of my hunting license to keep as a souvenir, maybe frame it or something. They never could get around to producing the license for me...makes you wonder.

Not sure about big game, but when we did a dove hunt it was flat rate for everything (food, lodging, transportation, licenses, gun rentals, and alcohol). The only additional fee was for shells and tip which was calculated at the end of the trip.
It was a hell of a time and I would for sure do it again with the same outfitter. Only thing I didn't like was they advertised 2hrs from the airport and it was 4.5hrs. Also, only one person out of the whole outfitter spoke a little English so there was a language barrier. I wish I would have brushed up on my Spanish.

HA! Yes, this happens every trip as well. Not sure if it's a cultural thing or a bait and switch. One night at dinner, the host came back and said "ok, tomorrow we will duck hunt. Breakfast is at 3:00AM, then we have a three hour drive." To be fair, we killed 175 ducks in about an hour, but three hours was insane.

Sounds like a lot of squeezin for some juice.
How many would hire a contractor without an itemized list of pricing?

Fair point, but you know how it is at these auctions. They typically just say "does not include tips, transfers, shells." I've done about half auctions/half direct booking. I've had a blast on auction hunts, but I've just always had smoother sailing on direct bookings.
