That’s how he times his pitches to get good swings on them.

I think he’s trying to take a peek out of his peripheral vision as to where the catcher is setting up. I had a teammate who use to do that.

I was nowhere near as good as him obviously but blinking rapidly when you know the pitchers windup helps you focus perfectly on the pitch coming to the plate
