Why do we throw 65 to 70% off speed pitches when we have almost every pitcher on our team that can pitch at 93 mph or harder? Seemed like if we are going to do that we need more finesse pitching.

I do think that was the issue with Evans. There was so much off speed and they just weren’t falling for it.

It's called pitching backwards and it was not working last night.

Many high school kids can hit a 93 mph fast ball. Mixing in a lot of off speed is the way to go if the correct pitch is called.

Baseball players come to college to be developed first and foremost, not 'just" to win. Nobody's goal in life is to peak out at the college level.
If you don't try to develop guys, get them to add different pitches and gain control, word will get out and you won't see recruits come as much in the future.
And that's not to mention- 93 mph fastballs is hardly a fireball, even average college batters can catch up to that pretty easily. What they need to slow down the bats is the off-speed pitches, so that 93 looks like 98.

And you make the pitch. If the right pitch is a curveball or a slider and you hang it up in the zone, you're getting killed.
And, of course, some guys will guess right on whatever you throw now and then. That can make a good pitch look bad.

I guarantee it is half of this, at the most. Your perception is not reality
