A24 horror films always intrigue me.

I have to say, this one may be their most dark and unsettling one yet.

It’ll definitely stay with you afterwards.

Not with blood and gore, but just other disturbing themes that were presented. I’ll never listen to another children’s nursery rhyme the same again.

Do yourself a favor and see this on the biggest screen possible with Dolby. The sound element in the film is key.

I heard there was a curse put on you near the end of the film. Is that true?

Not sure about a curse, but I had trouble sleeping last night for sure.

*SPOILERS*

The entire premise of the demon in this film, Abyzou, who preys on pregnant women and is responsible for miscarriages and infant deaths just was disturbing to me. If you’re a couple expecting or trying, I caution you about watching.

Anyway, this is the popular take on what happened throughout the film and I agree…

Throughout the film, the perspective entirely follows one character. While we hear voices throughout it, the only other person who ever appears is Evies mom and she is in a catatonic state the entire time. However, that is the key to it…we only know Evies perspective. I believe that the final walk through of the house at the end of the film was the actual state of the house through the entire timeline of the movie. However, Evie is in psychosis and it seeing the house as it was. Jessa in the audio files? She is Evie. Evie recorded these files and sent them through an anonymous email to her co-host.

Essentially, as we go through the film, the audio recordings are Evie’s perception of the events through her psychosis and her rationalization is telling the truth about what she did. She killed her mother and baby as the pressure of caring for them both caused her to have a psychotic break. At the end, we see her mom’s bed made neatly. Her mom was never actually there in the movie.

Happy to discuss once this thread gets going!

Nah I just like to be home when my wife gets off and out of the miserable Baton Rouge week day traffic. A lunch time showing is where it’s at

Just got out

That ending was the most unsettling I’ve seen since Hereditary. I was looking from between my fingers the whole time. Holy shite.

SPOILERS

I feel like they missed some opportunities to make it scarier by showing the mom lurking in the background in some scenes. I get that it’s an audio based horror and they didn’t want to be too “on the nose” and go the jump scare route but it would have put it over the top IMO. However, maybe the constant expectation of it was part of creating that creepy atmosphere.

The theory mentioned above is a good one, but where does is the bf at if that’s the case? The neighbor mentioned they were both murdered.

Literally slept through this whole movie. My wife was pissed because she said it sucked while I caught some Z's.

Saw this tonight, and it was experience for sure. The feeling of dread just amps up throughout the whole movie. When this goes to streaming I’m gonna do a rewatch with headphones.
