Only if he couldn't rally the funds to fire this dead weight, and since that's his job, that is a failure.

He does not have the final say-so. No AD at LSU ever really has; some have had enough sway for it to look that way. Verge is not that guy yet.

Strike one. Part of your job as AD is to fund raise.

If you can't come up with funds to fix the only other money maker on campus, you are failing

It would be an even bigger failure if the idea is he can't convince people that McMahon's work at LSU is unacceptable. And even worse given that everybody knows the school president and occasionally butting in governor do not support this basketball coach.

makes me wonder if LSU has any institutional comittment to it's men's basketball program at all. LSU basketball seems to be falling as a priority. Going nowhere fast.

I think it is more in the nature of not being able to convince the money people that it's not just a binary choice of Wade or retaining McMahon.

I'd love to see Wade return. But even if that doesn't happen, moving on from MM NOW if the first and most necessary step towards giving this program any chance to get better. Otherwise, you're just leaving the program on life support until the inevitable decision to pull the plug is made

That's some tortured logic, right there. What a load of nonsense.

I don't really give a crap about basketball, but I think it's still strike one in my opinion because of how terribly bad MM is. No excuse to keep him holding the keys to one of the big 3 with the results he's given us.

Again, I don't even give a shite about basketball and I think he should be fired.

He hired a new football coach for $90M dollars & they just signed a $40M football roster.

If that’s your only qualification, then he is doing a great job 6 months in

Not really since it obviously has to be a decision everyone is on board with and he inherited the monstrosity of a typical Woodward contract.

Explain why his work has been acceptable then

Verge's job is to steward the athletic department toward success and raise the money to do it. One of the two moneymakers is drowning and they'll leave even more money on the table if they keep McMahon. Attendance counted in hundreds not thousands for one of your two money makers is likely. It is a failure if he can't pull off firing a coach that has nothing going for him. Verge's "bosses" didn't even hire even the guy and may have wanted to get rid of him last year.

McMahon, Shaver, Torina, and the volleyball coach need to be fired today. Verge is too willing to tolerate mediocrity and this trend needs to stop.

He didn't hire McMahon and he didn't write the contract. How is it his mess?

The contract was not his mess but it's his job to fix basketball when he got the AD job.

Once again, he can only do what he is allowed to do. He cannot fire McMahon without BOS approval. Just like Woodward could not fire Wade or Kelly without BOS approval.

If the BOS does not want to fire McMahon for whatever reason, Verge, or anyone else, except possibly Rousse or Landry, will probably not be able to talk them into it. Most of those guys are not oblivious to the plight of MBB, and those that are do not care one way or the other about it. What that will equate to is they have already decided to fire based on either the state of the basketball program basketball or not fire him for purely monetary reasons. Basketball income is primarily due to TV revenue that is shared equally between SEC schools, so local attendance is probably not a major factor in their accounting. None of that is on Verge.

I don't know if he'll be a good or bad AD in the long run, but this situation is not something he got LSU into, nor are the bad contracts he is saddled with.

But I sure do hope they move on from McMahon.
