So, assume you have a dog from a breeder, first few weeks, maybe a month or two with it's littermates. Do you think that dog would prefer his own species over humans? If yes, over time, do you think that changes? If so, at what age do you think they start to prefer humans.

Full disclosure --> I have two dogs, and I love them more than most of my extended family members.

Dogs don't really think like we do. They have associative memories instead of episodic like we do. I imagine after they build some positive associations with you, they don't think about their littermates much. But I'm also a bit of a tard.

My sister in law had a lap dog and wanted to get rid of it so me and my wife took it. When he got here he loved my sister in law and went nuts when she left. So he bonded to my wife after that and would go nuts when she left. After a year or so of me walking and petting him he loved me the most and didn't care about the sister in law. I think they just bond to whoever gives them the most food and attention.

First mistake.

There are "mutts' of all sizes, shapes and colors in shelters that are smarter and can be trained to do more than those poor inbred dogs from puppy mills. They can hunt, be guard dogs, support animals, and even guide dogs.
There are also about any kind of purebred you want out there waiting to be adopted. Rescues are full of them.

Before the usual "I paid $1500 fer muh huntin' dog" crowd go off on my post

... , I have a $2000 stray cat.

Want an example of what dog breeders do?

Uga! That poor dog can barely breathe.

/end rant

I've always wondered about the ethics of separating a dog from its mother after only 10 weeks or so when buying from a breeder.

A homeless dude brought that to my attention a very long time ago when I was walking my dog in a downtown area way back in the day.

Yep...and most breeders are assholes. Almost as bad as the ones who buy from them.
