Went to do flat bench dumbbell presses last night. Layed back on the bench and brought dumbbells to the press position from my knees. When I went to push the bells up my left shoulder crunched and I had to put the weight down.

Took two ibuprofen last night. Very sore this morning when I try to lift my left arm straight out and up. And, straight out to the side and up.

No sharp or stinging pain just a dull pain.

Ironically, I’m seeing an orthopedic this morning for another issue.

Anyone know if there is a mechanical test he can do to see the extent of the injury or is imaging the only way to know? Hoping rotator cuff isn’t torn.

Any competent doctor can give you a 'stress test' of the shoulder. I certainly wouldn't be lifting weights until you have a definitive answer. If you mess your shoulder up you pretty much are done as far as training other body parts besides legs. This isn't something to fool around with.

yea if you have the armcare dynamometer or a crane scale you can test it but he will be able to do the same today but even then, without imaging....no way to know

Usually i see most issues stem from being internally rotated and a very tight chest. Broom stick dislocates help a ton here

also weighted hangs, working up to 5-8 min total hang time works great. strap in and relax into the stretch. start with BW

if you have rings, slow controlled rotations into german hang works great

other good one is the Doggcrapp training extreme chest and shoulder stretches

Try to get some therapy bands to do some shoulder exercises with. It will strengthen everything around the injury and you’ll recover faster if some bad is really wrong(speaking of two shoulder surgeries.) I would also see at what positions it hurts and does not hurt on different exercises. Buy you a TENS machine from Amazon and do that therapy as well one time a day for 20-30 minutes.

Timely subject as I’m on day 8 post-op from a supraspinadus repair and bicep tendonesis. Someone forwarded me a WWL news clip about a Mackie Shilstone/Tulane supplement plan that shows to help shoulder recovery.

Thought it would be fun to rare back and right hook to the body a heavy bag we gave our son for Christmas a few years ago. No warm up.

Right shoulder has been occasional issue (incline dumbbells in particular) ever since. Share as this ‘genius’ move of mine showed up last week on incline. Bugging me now.

Feel your point. Had shoulder injury in football years ago (other shoulder). They can do some physical movement tests to eliminate some issues but suspect MRI is in your future.

You have been warned on quality of my input given my poor judgment. But proper warm up and right weight will keep the co-pays away.

Hope minor and recovery fast for you!

Every single friend that has had a shoulder injury has gotten it from flat bench. The pressure it puts on your shoulder just isn't worth it.

I started getting shoulder impingement from flat bench 10 years ago, dropped it and never looked back. Use cables and machines for mid chest, incline or decline for compounds and your shoulders will thank you.
