Rank the following covers by how much the new artist put enough of their own touch on the song, making it much more distinct from the original:

Song: Sound of Silence
Original: Simon and Garfunkel
Cover: Disturbed

Song: Enjoy the Silence
Original: Depeche Mode
Cover: Ki Theory

Song: Hurt
Original: Nine Inch Nails
Cover: Johnny Cash

Song: Running Up That Hill
Original: Kate Bush
Cover: Placebo

Song: Mad World
Original: Tear For Fears
Cover: Michael Andrews and Gary Jules

I think Disturbed's cover is superior to the original. The best cover of Enjoy the Silence is this one:

This is one of the most overrated covers ever. It's not even in Disturbed's style. It's boring as hell and makes it way worse.

The Simon and Garfunkel re-make of their own song (the one that actually has drums) is an actual banger and is metal in feel, if not in actuality.

I haven't heard a few of these songs, original or cover, but my favorite is Type O Negative's version of Summer Breeze. They turned a yacht rock classic into a great goth song

probably the most radical reimagining of a classic song

I liked that. I prefer Failure’s version.

The Derailers’ version of Raspberry Beret definitely fits the category.

Eff the haters

Credited to Def Leppard, but technically a collaboration with the The Hothouse Flowers, the bands performing together are known as "The Acoustic Hippies from Hell" (a better known collaboration from them appears as From the Inside from the DL album of covers/B-sides, Retroactive.)

I've loved them for years.

I've posted this before in other cover song threads. I absolutely adore Ché Aimee Dorval.
