Was an active night in Oklahoma with several tornados and sadly 2 deaths

A mom and daughter tragically killed when tornado demolished their vehicle.

A News4 chaser got tboned by an amateur chaser who blew thru a stop sign. News4 guy has a cracked sternum but will be ok.

quote:

KFOR 4Warn Storm Tracker @TuneConner was involved in a serious T-bone accident while tracking tornado warned storms in Oklahoma. He is reportedly being taken to the hospital but is believed to be okay. Prayers for fast recovery

Mother/daughter info

Jodie and Lexi Owens have been confirmed as the mother and daughter lost to the Fairview tornado

Their vehicle found so far off road they were declared missing at first. When found this is what it looked like.

They are just begging Oklahoma to pass that dumb storm chaser law.

I just don’t understand the fascination with storm chasing.

Storm chasers driving like idiots is the biggest issue. Last year they covered up my area and had a tornado to chase. Probably half of them wound up getting pulled over and getting tickets.

I can promise you that they will never have to worry about me being on the roads during a tornado warning.

I am generally against it. But somehow there needs to be a way to slightly regulate it. I don’t want to eliminate chasers. But somehow need to get them into training classes on do’s and dont’s of chasing.

My idea of a license is not to reduce rather take the money gained via a license and require them attend a chasing safety class. Make it pretty cheap so everyone can afford and money used to run a safety course.

Could even make the course online with a test my only worry is once you do that then future leaders will want to add to the law and eventually it would be more costly and too regulated.

You would need to make the fines way higher than the class cost. And could issue a lighted magnetic sign that is placed on top of vehicle. Like a 12 inch round by 10 inch tall magnetic sign. That would make it easy to spot amateurs who have not applied and received training and don’t have a sign.

I know its dangerous now as roads get jammed with chasers and there will be deaths if nothing is done. I don’t want it limited to just major news teams either. Have to find a good balance without eliminating people from chasing.

I could do without the network news chasers. They add nothing to the TV coverage. “DAVID DAVID DAVID! WE GOT A RAIN WRAPPED HAIL CORE YA CANT SEE IT BUT IT LOOKS LIKE ROTATION DAVID!!” as the camera is focused on some clouds. Just stick to the radar and we’ll all be better off.

Ehh, it has been proven that if you can show people a tornado on the ground in their area that they take warnings much more seriously. However you can get that video works. Skycams and such are probably the best advancement in severe weather coverage in recent years, but spotters/chasers fill the blindspots where those cameras aren't.

Agree. They overdo covering regular storms and interrupt programming to do so. Its bad

Legend, you might wanna make a separate thread later on for tonights weather.

Governor Mike Kehoe has signed Executive Order 26-08, declaring a State of Emergency in Missouri in preparation for potentially dangerous severe weather forecasted across the state."
