And I would like to know how much federal funding is wasted here!

I'll say it again.....the US Dept Of Education is the worst run agency in government. Need to totally start over again!

The Chicago Teachers Union approves of the numbers.

Our nearest school is about $12K per student. The teachers are dirt poor but the kids are smart as hell.

I dont know the specifics of this school.

But there are schools designated for special needs (no mobility, high emotional dysfunction).

Georgia has schools which take students from multiple counties in order to provide adequate resources for the children in addition to keeping the level of distraction that they may bear in a normal school.

Those students will not be proficient. They will probably not get a diploma. Yet the schools are made available for very important services to the community to the age of 21.

The least utilized school in CPS is Douglass Academy High School at just 3% of its capacity. It has just 27 students for the 2025-2026 school year, despite having an ideal capacity of over 1,000 students.

This came at a cost of $54,695 per student last school year. That’s nearly $35,000 more per student than the district average.

Why? CPS can do little to solve the problem as long as the Chicago Teachers Union forces it to keep these nearly empty schools open.

The teachers must be illiterate if they can't teach kids to read one on one.

I wondered the same. Of course, Chicago public schools are totally messed up, but I thought there might be "more to the story".

Look at their website. 12 teachers, six are Special ed, one a reading specialist, one a "Lead Coach". The remaining four are art, music, math and science.

So I'm guessing this is pretty much dedicated to special needs kids, so might not be as outrageous as it sounds. Illinois law says special ed students can be enrolled through age 22.

Right or wrong, that could explain much of it. CPS is still messed up badly though.

The Federal funding is tiny (10%) compared to state and local for education. Trump can't fix Illinois and Chicago Democrats fleecing their constituents.

Property taxes just jumped $25 million and rose 62% in 15 years thanks to the district’s ballooning spending.

Cook County and the Chicago Teachers Union are the problem, and residents are getting what they voted for.

It is as outrageous as it sounds. The school can hold 1,000 students. If there are 27 students, you could school them in a much cheaper/smaller facility with far less overhead costs and staff, special needs or not.

Everett Elementary school stacked. Those are some reading fools, for a Chicago school.

That's true (my post was focused on the student/staff ratio, I should have made that clear). CPS could rent out the rest of the building, if that made more sense. But CPS is probably doing neither.

1000 students is generally considered a "smaller" school for a city like Chicago. Im sure they are repurposing what would normally be a closed/abandoned/sold school.

They are hiding these students from general population.
And if you have a student in general population, you probably should be thankful.

It doesn't appear that they have the level of medical need that I expected (daily siezures). But there is probably a serious need to be wholly contained and away from other students.

We watched Steve with Cilian Murphy last year. I presume this scenario is much closer to that movie than we can imagine.

There's a ton of inbreeding going on in Chicago now.
