Dayton Channel 2 News

It seems like every year this topic comes up, but why are the Dayton Flyers not in the Big East? They check all the boxes for what the Big East is looking for. Dayton would be the 2nd winningest school (1801 wins) in the Big East behind only UConn if added. Dayton is a great basketball city!!! Private Catholic School. Proud basketball history. Beautiful school. Dayton is the host of the NCAA First Four. Dayton is the host city for the Boys and Girls OHSAA State Basketball Championships. UD Arena is a fantastic venue. Dayton has a great and loyal fan base. Dayton is natural rival for Xavier. Tons of talent in the Columbus-Cincinnati-Dayton corridor. The Big East currently has an odd number of teams with 11…adding Dayton would make it even 12 members. Recently, Ohio lawmakers made a plea to the Big East to add Dayton as a member. It just seems like Dayton to the Big East is a natural fit. Dayton desperately wants in Big East.

19 NCAA Appearances
1 National Championship Appearance (67’)
3 Elite Eight Appearances (67’, 84’, 14’)
3 NIT Championship (60’, 68’, 10’)
Maui Invitational Champions (03’)
1801 Wins (35th All time)

UD Arena:

I’m all for it but I wonder if the Big East isn’t as motivated since they won’t pick up a new media market?

Makes a ton of sense. I love The Big East and this would be another great addition.

The Big East should try to get St. Louis, Temple and Wichita State while they're at it.

If the Big East were to go beyond adding Dayton…I think it’s going to be Saint Louis and VCU. That would get the conference to 14 with solid basketball additions.

How about St. Louis and Temple? You have to get Temple in the Big East imo. As a college basketball fan, I want to see this but unfortunately college football rules the roost.

UCONN was too until they left the American conference for the Big East. My message to Temple, Wichita St. and Memphis is to stop trying to be something you're not. You're basketball schools, embrace it and join a basketball conference if given the chance.
