Yes, I watched the 1980 match, but also watched the 1960 Miracle while a freshman at LSU.

WOW! I wasn't born in 60. How wonderful for you to have seen all 3 games.

I was 11 ... on delay but my dad would not tell me who won.

In those days, the Soviets were damn near unstoppable in hockey until that day.

Great time for America in 1980. Glad you got to see it. And good on your dad.

I was 18. It was glorious and so unexpected.

Back then, you had a team of current or recently graduated non-professional college hockey players for the US, while other countries had national teams that played together year-round. And very few of the 1980 team ended up being very successful NHL players.

Now Olympic teams have active NHL players on them.

Interestingly, the 1960 match was not carried live, but was on a one-hour delay. At one point, the local station interrupted to announce that it would display the final score at the bottom of the screen for 10 seconds. I looked away and did not see that score and enjoyed watching the game as if it were live.

Watched on delay. I was 11. So fricking pumped.

Somewhere in infinity, Herb Brooks is smiling.

Ya, a lot of posters don't realize what it was like watching delayed Olympic results. Same thing for the 1980 game.

The fact that I can still tell you who the captain of that team was to this day says something.

I did. Legendary game. The Soviets in 80 were a great team, but not as good as the group they had in 84 to 88. That team had the famous "Russian Five" that ended up in the NHL and changed the NHL forever. By far their best group ever and one that blitzed a lot of NHL teams.

The Red Wings were something to see in those days.

No doubt. That gold meant something to the cold war generation. Few remember we beat Finland for the gold.

It was truly the miracle of miracles to beat Russia at the time.

My step father who has passed taught me the game of hockey during those Olympics. He was from Hartford Connecticut. I still remember sitting in the living room in Ft Lauderdale listening to him explain what was happening including the rules.
