Leaning in to the IEP is a strange and unnecessary way to discuss this story. It reads like a law suit filing.
Better points to emphasize:
Why the F was a middle school conducting a political protest? Extremely inappropriate.
It takes away from actual instruction.
It rouses emotions in naive children who can’t possibly understand the complex issues.
It’s contrary to safety protocols for ALL children, and places them in unnecessary danger.
And special needs children are especially vulnerable.
Oh, and there’s that “legal contract”, “federally mandated” IEP plan to consider…

Yes, I agree, but I don’t give 2 cents about whether or not the kid was on an IEP, except perhaps documenting his “special needs” status.
Let’s be clear, the IEP process is a typical government policy and program that started with good intentions but has been mutilated by abuse over the years.
Every Adam or Shaniqua can get an IEP for just about any “condition” real or otherwise.
Secondly, emphasizing it as a “federal contract” is odd. It’s an educational policy enacted by court precedent, yes, but so are a dozen other things that the school probably violated. It just smacks of lawyer hyperbole.

If they took my kid out of class to do these "protests", without me knowing, and they wound up lost and had to call me or the spousal unit to come get them off the side of the road...... that would spin me into a level of pissedoffedness that I'm sure had never been witnessed by them prior.
That's one reason why I have no plans to move. I know the schools here would never do that because 1) the leaders are fairly competent and stick to actual learning as it has been and 2) the locals here would go absolutely batshit crazy on them and they would be pitchforked out of office.
