It seems very plausible that China will win the AI race

The consequences of this could be far reaching. They have gained a lot of ground over the last 2 years and may have a better approach. Companies here seem to be all chasing AGI in parallel. China has a different approach and they have some other built in advantages. We have let their universities surpass ours and they have the advantage of the volume of human talent. If they can retain the top 1 percent of their talent instead of them coming here then they likely win over the long haul. And they generate significantly more electricity so that won't be a bottle neck for them as it will be for us.
I'm not sure there is an easy solution. Trump got a lot of pushback from the base for wanting to import Chinese students but that might be the right thing to do. Espionage is also a real concern with allowing hundreds of thousands of Chinese students.
Anyone have an idea of what solutions could be implemented to win this race?

It would certainly give them some economic advantages. And that's not even to speak of military technology. We'll either live in an American dominated world or a Chinese dominated world. I'd prefer that we win.
