Do you think there's any chance of the USOC and US Government putting more resources into winter sports after LA? It doesn't take a genius to look at what Italy has done this year and come to that conclusion. Or are we just going to let the Euros come over and dominate the individual sports?

Stolz may be the only hope we have for either version of speed skating. Vonn and Shiffrin have sucked all the the oxygen out of the skiing program. Both were brought up in affluence and resources were placed elsewhere. Diggins may be the only alpine athlete we have who has benefited from the system (and met expectations).

How in the hell do we invent a sport like snowboarding, take it to the Olympics, and then give it up to the Asians? It's almost as bad as getting no where near the podium in 3x3 basketball. Europe and SE Asia are doing that Aussie's Kangaroo dance on us again this year.

In a country 30 trillion in debt we dont need to spend taxpayer dollars on winter sports

But if they can get more money out of sponsors sure that would be great

Blame NIL / the need to cut college sports that don't make money.

Just like how everyone in the court has T&F, Gymnastics, summer Olympic sports a lot of northern / rocky mountain schools have winter Olympic sports that are needing to be cut due to budget issues. A number of programs are cutting back on their ski teams, etc...

All our sports money is funneled to football. It is what it is

Watch, we won't win gold in LA. The NFL has been pumping money all over the world and I will not be surprised at all if Mexico wins it for the women. The Super Bowl week celebrity flag game did bring up an interesting proposition. With the QB just back there to throw so we go to our deep bench of recently retired QBs? (For some reason Teddy Bridgewater comes to mind.)

You are correct about football generally getting the majority of our sports money. The effects of NIL really won't be seen until at least LA '28...French Alps '30 is likely where we see it full blown.

I am cognizant of the connection on this site but Livvy Dunne is the walking example of NIL not going to athletic talent. We were at my wife's college reunion (D1/P4 sport) a couple of years ago and talked to an athlete who had mixed feelings about it. For females NIL isn't going to talent but to walk-ons/ girls that can't even make the travel team. I hope at some point things will settle down and these instahoes aren't stealing NIL money from those who actually deserve to be paid. Until that happens our "Olympic sports" will suffer.

Resources? As long as it's not tax dollars. If Coke and Frito Lay want to pony up cash for better Olympic production, whatever. But I would go ballistic if DC politicians raised taxes to help support some bullshite like that.

Livvy Dunne's NIL money isn't coming from LSU. Livvy Dunne was the #1 NIL women in $$$ on day one because she has a ton of other sponsors not because she's a gymnast. She has her own sponsors because of her massive following on socials that were just waiting to be allowed to pay her when it was legal under the NCAA. Livvy isn't taking away from athletes. She's getting her own deals just like every other mega influencer out there.

Calm down, bro. With a week to go, we have 19 medals: 6 fewer than the total medals won in Beijing, 4 short of Pyeongchang‘s total, 8 fewer than Sochi’s total, 16 short of Vancouver’s total, 6 less than Torino’s, 15 less than Salt Lake.

The US already has more medals than every Winter Olympics in the 20th Century. Notice the largest medal totals were games held in North America. The US will be fine.
