A weakened Russia is to the benefit of China due to the resource potential of Russia. What else could motivate China to prolong this Russia - Ukraine war?

It Could End Quickly.

Russia took a lot of Chinese territory before and after the Tzars.

Probably because Xi knows Putin and Trump are having conversations about how to pull Russia into Western trade.
Europe is in a death spiral....

Yes and China has not forgotten. I do believe if China were to ever make a move on Russia, the USA would certainly provide an out for Russia.

The biggest US foreign relation blunder has been our alienation of Russia.

There is no downside to allowing the Russian annexation of the eastern third of Ukraine, ending that pointless war and building some bridges (metaphorical) between the US and Russia.

Not even Putin is powerful enough to prevent Chinese subversion in his country. He knows China's ultimate goal. It's time to end this crap and put a major damper on Chinese expansionism, maybe save Russia in the process.

If necessary, it will happen because it must. China is economically constrained and the Russian resources are extremely inviting. Once that move is made by them, an alliance with Russia and the west will occur.

Agreed, we should have went full Marshall plan when the wall came down.

Instead we left them adrift.

We should have brought them into nato when the wall came down. Little did we know China would organize. China does have a long way to go. Their debt to gdp ratio is, by some estimates, worse than the US

Agreed, Clinton and his ilk thought the world had changed, and while it did change for 20+ years, that was an anomaly.

Like the period between Versailles and the German Invasion of Poland, the peace was squandered.
