I currently have a Masterbuilt Gravity Series 800. Works well and does get very hot. However, don't get searing capability due to lack of direct flame. Also just cumbersome enough to set up/light that it doesn't get used on weeknights.
Goal is to move to something easier to start that can smoke but also has great searing capability with direct flame.
Currently evaluating:
- Reqteq Deck boss 800
- Weber Searwood 600XL
Any thoughts on these options or other alternatives to consider?

Weber Kettle.
Tons of accessories available to accommodate your needs.
The extra real estate with the 26" Kettle is invaluable. I just smoked a 16lb brisket on mine.
Definitely worth the extra coin.

Weber Searwood 600XL
Bought this two weeks ago. Haven't done much with it but so far so good.

I have had a Weber Searwood 600 (not XL) since last November and have enjoyed it. Have owned Weber kettles and a Smokey Mountain cooker for many years, but I’m liking the simplicity of the pellet grill so far for smoking chicken, turkey, and ribs. Have not yet done an overnight butt or brisket.
Searing on it is probably about as good as you can get with the current crop of pellet grills, but it’s nothing compared to what my Weber Genesis gasser equipped with GrillGrates (flat side) can do. I experimented with the Searwood for grilling steaks and pork chops, but I’ll keep cooking them on the gasser and GrillGrates for superior crust/browning.
I tried putting GrillGrates on the Searwood, and it did better for a steak but still not as good, or as fast, as GrillGrates on the Genesis.
I’m glad I got the regular size Searwood rather than XL. It holds as much as I need to cook, and it is easier to maneuver. The biggest flaw in the Searwood is two shitty wheels when its heavy arse needs 4 wheels on casters. I don’t like to keep it in exposed to rain, and I don’t want to run it under my covered patio, so I wheel it back and forth. If you have a bad back or other limitations, it could be tough to wrangle an XL. The regular size is hard enough.
Some on YouTube have added casters, but I don’t trust my mechanical skills enough to tackle that chore on such an expensive item.
