Two navy ships collided Wednesday

A U.S. warship and a Navy supply vessel collided during refueling Wednesday afternoon, the U.S. Southern Command told Reuters in an emailed statement on Thursday.
The Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Truxtun and the Supply-class fast combat support ship USNS Supply collided during a replenishment at sea, said the statement from the Southern Command, whose areas of responsibility include Central and South America and the Caribbean. It did not specify the location of the collision.
“Two personnel reported minor injuries and are in stable condition,” it said.
The incident is currently under investigation and both ships have reported sailing safely, the statement added.
The Wall Street Journal first reported that the collision took place near South America, saying the cause was not yet clear.

Probably. At a minimum, something is going in his record that will stall his career. Can't be crashing ships into each other as the CO.

Its amazing there aren’t more. Unrepa have a ton of moving parts besides navigation.
I was on TAD orders to Coral Sea for 2 weeks of workups back in late 80’s. Had to help a squadron out who had failed their audit. While onboard during Unrep we did an emergency breakaway. We had a fire in a rag room off hanger bay and it got pretty big.
They called GQ and we mustered on the flight deck as I watched the supply ship move away. Took over an hour to put it out.
Afterwards went and looked at a berthing space right above the rag room and everything was fried from the heat below. While on FD the smoke was pouring out of hanger bay doors like crazy.
Supposedly the same rag room had caught fire a few months prior. Stacked rags too high.
Onboard carriers there is a fire every day. Its amazing how much goes on.
Some unreps are done in rough seas. You have to practice them in all conditions so if in war you know how to do them. Someone screwed up in this collision but they will investigate and are thorough

Why was it filmed on a potato? It's 2026, not 2006. And why would that be allowed to be uploaded and shared by a seaman from the boat? He's gonna end up in JAG.

It's a dangerous operation considering there's two large Navy vessels steaming side-by-side for extended periods of time. But it's also a routine part of Navy life at sea and shouldn't ever result in a crash like the one in the video. Whoever was driving was asleep at the wheel.

Yeah, I've been onboard aircraft carriers for countless UNREPs. After watching the video, Skipper is fricked.

Hard to for sure tell by footage but it almost appears the trailing ship turned to starboard by the wake. Would need better footage. As a rule the lead ship is centered and the trailing ship does all the maneuvering.
