Cedar Creek star signs with Grambling

Blake Robinson made history in his time on the gridiron for the Cedar Creek Cougars. It’s only fitting he goes out adding more history.
Robinson, a three-time All-District selection and 2025 LSWA All-State honorable mention, signed to play football at Grambling State University Wednesday afternoon in front of hundreds of supporters - becoming the second Cedar Creek athlete to play football at GSU.
“It’s close to home. I live five minutes away. And my grandpa was friends with Eddie Robinson. It feels right to go here,” Robinson said.
The all-time sack leader at Cedar Creek, Robinson already etched his name in program history books earlier this year with 22.5 career sacks in his four seasons to go with 215 total tackles and over 55 tackles for loss.
He verbally committed to Grambling State on Dec. 18 after waiting out the transfer portal cycle, potential coaching changes, and last-minute offers from other schools. But he always knew GSU was his future home.
As for his position at Grambling, Robinson has been told he’ll be a blocking back or an H-back - a hybrid between a tight end and a fullback.
Robinson is excited for his upcoming role with the Tigers.
“I’ve been blocking for four years of high school, so I think it’s a good fit.”
Cedar Creek head coach Jacob Angevine spoke highly of his program cornerstone all season as he stepped into his first season leading the Cougars - praising Robinson’s commitment, heart for Cedar Creek, and love of the game. To see him sign to play Division I college football means the world to Angevine.
“It’s really special, especially being able to watch this kid grow up since the 4th grade. He’s always had the desire to be a Cougar football player. He loves this place,” Angevine said. “And now for him to be a college football player and live out his dream, it’s really cool.”
Angevine not only sees Robinson’s signing as a special moment for a player and family built by Cedar Creek, but also as motivation to a Cougar team with 27 underclassmen with hopes of reaching the next level.
“I think everybody wants to say you have to go to these big time schools to get your name out there and that’s how you chase the college offers, but for a kid like Blake to do it and to be able to stay local, it’s special,” Angevine said. “The colleges are looking. It doesn’t matter where you’re at if you’re good enough. They’ll find you. That’s a big message to our young kids to know they can make it to the next level at Cedar Creek.”
Robinson is already bought into Grambling head coach Mickey Joseph and his vision for the program and is ready to help the G-Men get back to the top of the SWAC.
“There are no flaws in it. I like the way he coaches and does everything,” Robinson said of Joseph’s coaching style. “I feel like it’s a good place. I want to be here.”
Grambling State went 7-5 last fall in Joseph’s second season. GSU has five home games in 2026, including its season opener on Aug. 29 against Clark Atlanta.

Would be nice to see Robinson get to try Defense first.

His degree if he gets one, will be worthless

In 2024 there was a grand total of 39 white students that attended Grambling out of a total of 5,150

This reeks of “I’ll do anything to play at any level of college football”. But picking an HBCU seems worthless to me given that he will get 0 benefits of networking.
Companies aren’t going to HBCU’s to recruit white students for jobs if they recruit at all there

His father is an appeals court judge so networking probably not much of a concern. IIRC the kid lost his older brother in a car wreck a year or two ago. He may have just wanted to stay close to home.

No he's not.
Wrong family, Robinson is a common name.
Good for the kid though. Get your school paid for and still play the sport you love.
A Grambling degree is not worthless like stated above. No more than any other college or university, imo. It all depends in what you major in, and your drive to succeed after college. Plenty of State Troopers, and football coaches and teachers have a Grambling degree.

Him being white at an HBCU definitely makes him stand out.
Something to think about, majority of your black lawyers, doctors, dentists, engineers graduated from HBCUs. I know you guys like to knock them but I work with people who graduated from Columbia, Harvard, Yale….guess what? we all make the same amount of money, and we all going to back the lord when we die.
