quote:

“That doesn’t mean that we’re not going to participate in free agency or participate with veteran players.”

“But the reality of having, you know, 10 selections, eight that are in the top 150, and already a very young defense, and with pretty heavy investment on offense, in most worlds, we’re probably going to be one of the younger teams in the league.”

Is there any heavy investment on offense aside from Watson?

Their OL in near the bottom of the conference, their QBs are rookies, no WRs to speak off and a rookie RB that is injured

Their Oline has 3/4 of the top 13 cap hits on the team, regardless of performance that is pretty heavy investment on offense, alongside the Watson contract and drafting two QBs last year and trading for Juedy last year as well

Yeah his comment doesn’t really speak to the quality of that investment

He counts for 26% of their cap with an $80.7M hit. I'd say that's a pretty heavy investment.

They then have another $44.7M in voided contracts (Bitonio, Njoku, Teller) about to hit the dead money if not extended, which is another ~15%

Their spending options this offseason are limited due to dead money and Watson’s contract.

However, they can still get better and improve their talent without focusing on expensive veterans in free agency

#6 - BROWNS
Round: 1 (Round Pick: 6)
#24 - BROWNS
Round: 1 (Round Pick: 24)

#39 - BROWNS
Round: 2 (Round Pick: 7)

#70 - BROWNS
Round: 3 (Round Pick: 6)

#107 - BROWNS
Round: 4 (Round Pick: 7)

#139 - BROWNS
Round: 5 (Round Pick: 1)
#144 - BROWNS
Round: 5 (Round Pick: 6)
#147 - BROWNS
Round: 5 (Round Pick: 9)

They pick early in every round, plus an extra first, and all three of their 5th round picks are at the very top where there is usually still quality available.

It’s the Browns, so nothing is guaranteed, but they should be able to stock up on a lot of young talent in the draft.

Their cap situation gets much better in 2027 & 2028.
