Sweetwater - Sugarland to be a TPC course?

Rumors that TPC is going to invest $20mil in the Cypress course at Sweetwater. Assuming it becomes daily fee and the Pecan stays private for members. Not sure though.
Buddy of mine is playing today with pros from another unrelated course and they confirm they've heard the same thing.
Would be interesting because a lot of TPC courses host PGA tour events. Houston is hosted at Memorial - a deal bankrolled by Jim Crane - who saved PGA golf in Houston.

I use to belong there. Would be interesting.
I'm sure the green fee will be $150 plus.

Considering Highland Pines is charging $160 and Blackhorse North is $152, GCOH is $160, this Sweetwater Deal might be pushing close to $200 lol

How would that work for existing members? If you joined a club for 48 private holes and they drop it to 24. Would they be grandfathered in for access to the TPC or what?
I’m a member at Sugar Creek and thought about leaving there in the near term and joining Sweetwater at some point down the road. Guess that’s out of question now.
Demographics in sugar land are vastly different than they were when these clubs and courses were built but seems like demand is higher than ever.

When I first moved to TX and FBC in 2006-2007, Sweetwater was the place to play and be a member. I had multiple buddies who were members then and others who joined within the last 5 years. None of them are members anymore. It’s either Sugar Creek or River Bend for all of them now.

I’ve heard other rumors that the TPC Course will stay private. We will see

My advice is DON'T.
Unless you like getting pencil whipped in every tournament and being around the largest group of A-Holes ever in one place.
There are some good people, but far and few between.

Houston is just terrible for golf

That a complex question.
1. The Metro area has lost over 30 plus courses in the past 3 decades.
2. The City of Houston has done a terrible job of maintaining city owned golf courses and 25 years ago Mayor Whitmire made some terrible minority contract leases who were very underfunded and lacked the knowledge of maintaining courses.
That miss management resulted closure of most city courses.
3. The renovation of Gus Wortham was a rare success for the City.
4. The Metro area is flat and real estate property is far too valuable for housing over courses. Drainage and water are big obstacles for the area.
With that said, there are some very nice Country Club courses in the area.

I actually don't think Houston muni golf is bad. Ya Hermann sucks but for the money Sharpstown ain't bad.
Kathy was a sucky mayor but she's been gone for over 30 years.

I didn't even know that Sharpstown was still open.
Last time I played there, I was hit by a golf ball on #9 and my buddies car was broken into. That had to be 30 years ago.
Whittmires Administration gave out the contracts to guys like Lopez who sucked the cash and the life out of Glenbrook to pay for his course Riverpoint to be built.
At Brock Park, it was 50/50 that you were going to be robbed at gunpoint in the middle of a fairway.

Oh wow…Brock is the first course I ever played after moving to Houston 25 years ago. It was a fun track for a cheap muni…I remember the first four or five holes on the back 9 were kinda wild. It definitely had some sketchy neighborhoods around it, and if the wind was from the east you smelled the nearby landfill the entire round.
