Have some Marriott points to burn and found great flights to St Thomas for our March dates. From what I have read, staying on St John is best, but I am struggling to find anything reasonably priced over there, so we were just going to use points to stay at the Westin.

I had hoped to spend one day exploring St John in a jeep or car, but having a hard time finding one day rentals. Any advice? If not, we could take the ferry over and then grab a taxi. We would like a spot with a great hike that ends at a nearby beach before heading back to Cruz bay for dinner and the ferry. All recommendations appreciated for a St John day.

We also wanted to do a tour to BVI on the water one day. Any suggestions on which spot to hit? I saw some that do the Baths, others that do Josh Van Dyke and bar hop.

All suggestions appreciated.

I would rent a jeep for the entirety of your trip…. You will want a jeep on St John and not rely on taxis. Mae sure you hit all 3 or 4 bays during the day because each one is very different. We liked Maho the most, but cinnamon and trunk are both spectacular.

BVI day we went to The Baths and to Yost to hang at White Bay. Nathan’s very cool but it takes a while to get there and after you swim and go through the baths it kind of ends there. If we did it again we would have spent an entire day at White Bay bar hopping.

The ferry at Red Hook isn’t so bad.

I like the ferry ride. It is actually pretty cool. It has AC if you want to stay indoors.

I find St. Thomas to be a little getto. I stayed there once and will never do it again after visiting the other nearby islands. Not bad, just not as good. After a day in Jost Van Dike, you will wish you stayed there.
Spend the money and do St. John or the BVI’s.
Just my opinion. Some people may disagree.

Do Jost. White bay is beautiful.

Rent a boat or take a shuttle to Lime Out. Its a floating taco bar and one of my favorite places.

Drive to coral bay (take northshore road, stop at a beach or two along the way), eat at skinny legs, hike to rams head and stop at blue cobblestone beach on the way back, take centerline road back to Cruz bay.

Like others here have said, if it is at all budgetable, spend the extra money to stay on St. John. We stayed with another family in two separate houses in a gated community at the top (up the mountain) in a house that had its on pool and everything we needed. Forget who we booked through, but SJ is safe. We had a jeep and basically had the island at our disposal. Fantastic trip. Took a day sail to Virgin Gorda and the Baths, went over to Jost one day. Just a great trip. I can't remember who we booked through, but I would do it again in a heartbeat if I went back there.

There is a Westin there on SJ as well, or at least there used to be. We had some friends staying there. It looked at least ok to me. Maybe try there?
