Did Matt Mauck have a Lisfranc injury in 2002?

For those of you old enough to remember, Mauck went out with what Saban called a "foot injury" involving tendons and ligaments early in 2002 season. It kept him out all season and of course he came back to lead the team to a NC the next year. I only bring it up in context to Leavitt with his current situation.

Thanks, been brought up about a dozen times the last several weeks though

Brandon Taylor also had it. Pretty sure he had a great year his recovery. If a DB can play well after the injury then I feel pretty confident that a qb in 2025 can as well. The injury isn’t quite what it used to be

Still wild that Saban kept Mauck in that game against Florida when he got hurt.
It was over.
It was over.

October 12. I was there with the Jacksonville alumni group. I think we were up 33-7 at the time.
It possibly cost us a shot at the SEC title. That, coupled with Damien James being dismissed from the team.
Other than Mauck's injury, it was a great game to attend. The previous year the Gators beat the hell out of us in Tiger Stadium and the return flight to Jax was awful because the UF fans were mocking us. So it was with great joy that we jangled our keys at the Gator fans fleeing the Swamp in our romp.
The Gainesville Sun's sports headline was. "HUMILIATED" with a picture of Ron Zook walking off the field with his head down.

Was he hurt on a FG attempt?

There were 11 minutes left when the drive started. I mean, I get that LSU had a comfortable lead, but pulling your starter with most of the 4th quarter still remaining in a road SEC game is not a no-brainer type decision.
I'm sure it has happened, but I can't find a single recent instance of LSU resting its starting QB resting with 10:45 or more remaining in an SEC game, regardless of score.

In a recent interview BT said he was in the best shape of his life following the recovery process.

Am I crazy or did Brennan basically play most of the 4th qtr against Texas A&M and Oklahoma in 2019?

I don’t know, but I remember us k kneeling the ball against ole Miss in 2011 with like 10 mins left

Yes, he did come back to have a great year but he wasn’t the runner he was before. Brandon Taylor had the same injury and was as good as ever. Lisfranc is a serious injury and you can recover from it but not everyone recovers the same.

Mauck also said he focused on throwing during recovery because he couldn’t run and it really helped his game.

His foot looked like this drawing

A&M counts I guess, because LSU called a timeout to take Burrow out and replace him with Brennan with like 12 minutes left.
For OU, Burrow was in for the drive at the start of the 4th quarter that resulted in a missed FG. OU then had a relatively long scoring drive and it was under 10 minutes left by the time LSU got the ball back and Brennan went in.

It was 5 minutes left (which is still a lot). I can't tell who was QB on the FG drive before that one (that started at 12:52) because it was all runs, but I think Mett only got the last drive and Lee/Jefferson were still playing in the first part of the 4th quarter.

Hot Take: Mett should've been starting by that point of the season and not faking a knee to run a bootleg just to feel something.
It was more than abundantly clear at that point that Lee and Jefferson were what they were.

We were up 36-7 with about 3 minutes left. Mike Heywood pulled the RB’s and had a freshman in that went the wrong way on a handoff. So matt had to keep the ball and the pissed off Florida DL went to hurt him. And did.
And I was brave enough to ask Saban why he didn’t take his QB out the game with a 29 point lead with 3 minutes left. I have part of my arse missing to this day where he chewed it off.

So did Kris Fulton late in 2018 and Stingley in 2021.
Clemson RB Etienne did as well and missed his rookie year with the Jags. He’s bounced back ok.
