The contemporary adaptation of Charles Dickens's classic novel, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron, starred Ethan Hawke, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Bancroft, Chris Cooper, and Robert De Niro.
I've always loved this particular adaptation as it remains faithful to the source material, gives it a modern spin, and offers some steamier romance on the side between Hawke and Paltrow.
If you haven't seen it I highly recommend a viewing.

Really loved this movie.

It was always a guilty pleasure, a perfect 90's movie in a way that doesn't get re-created a lot.

I really liked this movie, even if it wasn’t the best. I’ve always been a Hawke fan and Gwyneth Paltrow has never looked better. She was pretty stunning in this movie.

I honestly can't tell if this is a joke or if I should watch this flick

I’ve been to the house that they used (with digital enhancement) in Sarasota (Ringling estate).

She was gorgeous. I remember the scene where she has the green suit on.
Once of the few modern updates to a classic story that actually remains very faithful to the source material.

It’s definitely worth a watch. It’s interesting that this and Gattaca came out in back to back years - two very underrated movies, both starring Hawke.
I also recommend A Midnight Clear from 1992 - Hawke, Sinise, John C McGinley, Peter Berg, Frank Whaley. - WWII platoon story.
I might give these all a rewatch soon.

I had to read that stupid shite in 1996 as a senior in HS in AP Brit Lit.
The last thing I wanted to do was watch a movie of it in 1998.
Never seen it, never will.

Remember seeing like 5 mins of this film a few yrs ago (read the book in Jr High and hated it).
First thing that stood out to me as the production quality and the incredible photography of the film.
... Then I find out Emmanuel Lubezki shot it. No wonder. It's like finding out Conrad Hall shot Searching for Bobby Fisher.
Man the 90s were incredible. Absolute immortal cinematographers were just gig working for major paydays.

Gattaca, is a master piece. One of my personal favoite films.
Really simple plot, but great dialogue, story telling and editing.
