I don't think Gruden would have been interested even if the HC position was open.

Jets interviewed 7 coaches for DC.
Given a few were just to comply with the Rooney Rule, but still bad they hired none.
They went with an 8 candidate who they interviewed yesterday, will not call the defensive plays.

When they hire him at OC, Frank Reich is about to go from being the only HC to be fired mid-season in back-to-back seasons to being named interim HC in back-to-back seasons.
