Century and Emirates Global Aluminum announced plans to build the first primary aluminum production plant in the US since 1980 in a joint venture to be owned 60% by EGA and 40% by Century.

To be built in Inola, Oklahoma and expected to produce 750K metric tons/year of aluminum, larger than previously planned and more than doubling current US production. Will be largest ever primary aluminum plant in US

Project expected to start by end of 2026 and production by end of decade.

Investment will be over $4B. Expected to generate 1,000 direct jobs and 1,800 indirect jobs. Roughly 4,000 jobs will be tied to construction activity. Will support aerospace and defense, automotive, food and beverage and other essential markets.

Some good news for the USA

Yeah, but it doesn't start production next month.
That means it's useless.

Yes it is. Things like this that barely see the light of day in the news make more impact than all of the other horse shite they report on combined.

Huge deal. Virtually all aluminum wheels come from China whether automobile, atv, lawnmower, etc. This long past due.

It seems that most don't know what an Alumina Smelter is.

It takes aluminum oxide, aka alumina, which has already been extracted from bauxite and with a lot of electricity it turns it into aluminum metal. These are usually located with hydroelectric power. We had them on the Gulf Coast when natural gas was almost free until around 1982. Pipelines were built to take the excess natural gas from offshore production inland to the Midwest and East. Alcoa's pot lines in Ingleside TX were powered by a large room full of natural gas engine driven generator sets. There were smelters in Ingleside, Point Comfort, Lake Charles and Chalmette at a minimum.
