Vent Covers for outside crawl space vents

my floors in my 1960s ranch House are freezing cold and in some areas drafty to a degree my neighbor said I should put vent covers on the little vents on the crawlspace walls outside the house… is this a year-round thing just leave them up there is there any danger of foundation issues like from the air not being able to flow?

During really cold weather I cover mine. I’m trashy (actually I live where nobody can see my house) and I use foam board insulation cut to correct size, but I’m sure there is something more decorative. I do know they make vents that will automatically close once the temp dips below a certain number, mid 40s it seems? Definitely remove during warm weather to have airflow and prevent moisture buildup.

If the holes are a standard size, you can find covers. If they are not standard, you will need custom made vents. good luck finding them for a reasonable price.
The amount of airflow can affect how dry the crawlspace is and cause moisture issues. best to leave alone, but in this cold, dry weather, a foam cutout for warmth will not hurt.

its usually fine to cover for the cold months. dec, jan and feb. Just don't forget to remove for the humid spring and summer.

I put in the automatics. They close below 45 degrees.
