this is a documentary on the hilarious story of the group of artists in providence who built and occupied an apartment inside the providence place mall in the 2000’s. Very entertaining.
art is life…man

It was worth a watch. Weird folks, but this kinda seemed like a fun project.

Watched this the other night, pretty entertaining.
I was pretty impressed that the guy had to wherewithal way back in the day to video pretty much everything they did. Vlogging long before vlogging was even a word.

these guys remind me of the people who are out protesting in Minnesota today during work hours.

Was it the part where they literally said they were able to do this because of their white privilege?

they said that after they got released when they got caught smuggling stuff in thru the service entrance, at night. which was undoubtedly true. the "white privilege" comment was in reference to that specific instance and interaction with mall security

Agreed 100% with their comment... that is prob exactly why they were released in that town. Lots of affluent white folks there...especially at that time.

I made it about 30 minutes. I wasn’t prepared for life lessons. I just wanted to see people doing hood rat shite with their friends.

I really enjoyed this. It’s a bit of a clickbait title and concept though, as it’s really more of a documentary about the Tape Art artist dude and his collective. The Mall Apartment was just a part of it. Albeit, it’s the most interesting part, so I don’t blame the film makers for leading with that.

Cool story about the mall apt but a lot of fluff.

Watched this last night, was like 20% about the apartment, 60% art and 20% pretentious, the comments about the white privilege and stuff like it had me rolling my eyes. Also at the end where they rebuilt it in a studio and the original guys walked in all misty eyed and looking like they built Rome itself was nauseating.
If it was 80% apartment and 20% art, I would have enjoyed it.

Although that may have been a reality at that time, albeit far fetched, it certainly isn't true today. If a group of black thugs would attempt this today, not only would it be overlooked by the law, prosecution and judges, it would most likely be rewarded.
However white trash would no doubt be prosecuted today.

The noob mall security guard finding it and snitching on them is some BS. He should have took advantage of it too.
I heard about this story years back, glad to see the new owners let the main guy back into the apartment area after the old owners banning him from the property for so long.

How would he "take advantage" of it?

Looked like a fun break room or chill spot. They had a video game system and TV in there.

No "When there's no more room in Hell, the dead will walk the earth;" no care.

That was a great watch.
Not sure how you could watch that trailer and not go into it knowing that this was about artists taking on a challenge and not about squatters getting over or activists sticking it to the man.
I feel bad for anyone thinking they were going to get a twist on a heist movie, but after seeing all of the good that these artists did and do in the community (and attempt to do) you should come away with zero contempt for these people. The hospital volunteerism alone puts them above the majority of artists and social commenters.
And as light and temporary as that guy Michael's tape art is, his hidden sewer installation shows how great an artist he really is. And his buddy making that "miniature" diorama of the mall, very impressive.
The main thrill of watching this was the nostalgia of being a kid and finding an abandoned shed or treehouse in the woods. Or you and your friends discovering a "secret" design-flaw way into a building that you and only the local bums and hippies knew about. Finding an old treehouse stocked with Playboys and stale cigarettes was the fricking best.
