The media had two choices: report that an illegal immigrant abandoned his 5-year-old to escape ICE and protect himself, or report that ICE detained a 5-year-old.
They obviously were not going to say anything that reflects poorly on illegal immigrants, especially when their narrative is always that these are just hard-working moms and dads trying to take care of their families. No different than the innocent Maryland dad who was actually a wife-beater and a human trafficker.
Democrat heroes are always the worst of humanity.
