I'll start.

I will be there!

Who else is going?

Any first-timers?

For your troubles here's the Masters Theme Song, "Augusta", on repeat for over one hour.

Won tickets to Wednesday in the lottery after about 15 years. Taking my dad who turns 70 this year. I feel like I’ve read and watched every possible thing there is about your first time at the Masters

Thanks man, I can’t wait! Any advice you have? We’re planning on being in line by 6:00a, hitting merch then back 9 first. Probably won’t spend much time at all at the par 3. Want to see as much of the main course as we can

I will be there this year for my fifth time, but this will be a first… going to the women’s amateur. That’s what we won tickets for. In all fairness, I don’t go for the golfers, I go for the course and the experience so it doesn’t bother me that it’s not the actual tournament. Would much rather watch the tournament on TV. I have a spinoff question to those of you who have been before, what merch should I seek out? Definitely going for a gnome this time because I’ve never gotten one before, but is there anything else that has to be had? Every time I go, I buy a masters umbrella because I like them and they’re very high-quality. Anybody got any specifics they like?

I’ve been fortunate enough to go on Wednesday multiple times now. DON’T SKIP THE PAR 3!!! It is an experience that you’re very lucky to be getting and it’s worth the time.

As far as getting there at 6 AM, it’s a great idea. Walk the course in order. From somebody who’s been there multiple times now and the first time I went I didn’t do this, I regret it. Walk the course from 1 to 18 in order. It enhances the experience… Trust me. If you go to the merchandise shop first you can have them store your stuff for you and they’ll even ship it home for you if you like. So that’s not a bad idea. But I would go to the part three for sure. Don’t miss out on that.

I guess I’m not a gnome guy, but they sell out quickly.

Are people reselling these?

For whatever reason I like to get a toboggan to wear on cold days.

I also like the selection of outer wear.

Yes they resell. Not sure why but they do.

I wouldnt skip the par 3.

Walk the course in order. Take breaks in some of the grandstands that let you see multiple tees/greens.

Bring digital camera and disposable.

Buy what makes you happy but I wouldn’t stress over it being the first stop. The lines are LONG early.

Sure.

Yep, get there early, especially if you only have one day. As I'm sure you know...no phones ever, but you are lucky in that you can take a camera in for practice rounds, so definitely take advantage of that.

You're correct again - go hit the gift shops once you're in. You can ship everything you buy back to your house. Do that so you're not having to carry all your shite around with you all day.

How well does your dad get around? You may want to get a chair (they make a great carry-on as you head back home), or you can always hit the grandstands. We did that a ton last year - way more comfortable than the chairs.

Also, back to your dad, the course is way hillier than it looks on TV, so prepare for that, but it's the best place in the world to walk slowly and take your time.

Buy the Masters branded binoculars - they are worth their weight in gold.

You will want to park by, and go through, the North Gate, as that is the better gate if you're looking to get the most "welcoming" entry...it's also going to dump you out right at the main scoreboard, just down from 1 tee, so take a left, walk up the hill, and you will be at the pinnacle - 1 tee, 9 green, 18 green, and 10 tee.

I believe that's the highest point on the course and it provides a great view as well as an idea of just how undulating the course is.

If you walk past 10 tee (on your right), the trail will lead you to the par-3 course - you can stand at the overlook and pretty much see the entire thing, but I'm guessing it will be a zoo there on Wednesday, so not sure if that's a good spot. It's great Thurs-Sun just to peek-in.

Walk down 10 - look for Bubba's plaque. Laugh when you think of Rory hitting the cottages on the left.

Obviously you have Amen Corner - sit in the grandstand and watch a few holes. From there, depending, on the angle you have...you will be able to see the approach/green on 11, tee on 12 and, if you have the glass, the green on 12. You can't see much of anything on 13. But 12 is the money hole.

16 is great. It's been our post-up place for the last 10 years. If you are at the top of the hill that overlooks 16 - you have:

5 green & 6 tee behind you
15 approach and green
16 green - you can't see the tee shots from the top of the hill
17 tee
Big scoreboard at 15 green
Also, bathrooms, the smaller gift shop, and concessions are a short walk

On to the front...

If at 16 - then walk down 5 and go to 4 tee (great par 3) - also bathrooms and concession close by. We always spend some time on 4 because you can see 3 green, which is always interesting and 4 can be a bitch depending on wind.

9 green is an excellent spot, can get busy because it's the hub of the wheel, but a great overall spot to see a bunch of action.

Depending on if it has rained or not before, the grass can get slick and I've seen people bite it - you may want to wear a comfortable, running/support trail shoe. You will see quite a few people in golf shoes (overkill, but I can see why).

Weather again - I've had morning where it was 32 degrees and then afternoons where I was getting burnt. Layers are your friend.

You absolutely have to have one pimento cheese. I really don't like them, but I have one each Thursday for lunch just to fulfill my contractual obligation with myself. Otherwise, the BBQ sandwich and Egg Salad are the go-to for lunch. They were selling the BBQ meat in a separate bag for those that just wanted protein, so that was kinda cool...

Breakfast, it has to be the chicken biscuit -- can be dry, so get some jelly, and coffee.

All the food is inexpensive, so save your money for the gift shop!

Let me know if you have any other questions...and have a great trip!

I had years '18-'24 and sold them all last year to one guy for about $8k (without the boxes - could've gotten more if I had them), so yes...people are re-selling them.

Awesome advice! Thanks man.

He gets around ok as he’s had both knees replaced the last couple years. We plan to take our time getting around. I don’t think we’ll camp too long in any spot (other than just resting) just bc there’s no tournament play, but 16 seems like a great spot like you laid out. Can’t imagine how fun it is to hang there most of the day watching everyone come through.

North gate seems like the move for the first time for the wow factor.

Appreciate the food recs too. The prices totally justify dropping $1k on merch

Thanks again for all the tips. I’ll definitely refer back as it gets closer

You’re welcome!

Oh, for fun…there’s one palm tree still on the course from when it was a nursery, before becoming ANGC…see if y’all can find it!

Yea when u find the Palm tree call me on your cell phone and tell me what hole you found it on! This year the prices in the secondary market are up about 30-40%. Last year's crackdown has Patrons leery of selling to brokers or hospitality companies.
