Was nice to see the 1986 Final Four team honored at the game Saturday, the majority of the team was there. They also honored Jerry "ICE" Reynolds during a timeout in the first half.

Anyone know who the white dude dressed in the purple pimp suit was out on the court with the team when announced? I missed his name, was he a former player on the team or a staffer?

"G-Man".

He's a special needs guy who was a "staff" member for Brown throughout his time at LSU.

We’re so far from a Final Four program today.

Only made the tournament 5x since the last final four in 2006

I still count 2020 as we were 12-6 conference absolutely would have made the tournament easily that year. So I would say 6.

Today? Yes. But the good news is that can be flipped very, very quickly with the right coach.

Iowa St was 2-22 (0-18) in 20-21. With a new HC and largely new roster, they reached the Sweet 16 the very next year (you'll remember their first-round opponent). Since then they have been a perennial tournament team and, until two road losses last week, reached No. 2 in the polls.

Texas Tech was declining after Beard left. 16-16 in 2023. New HC comes in and they are in the top 1/3 of the Big 12 immediately and reached the Elite 8 last year. Contrary to what people want to believe, LSU (as a program) has as much POTENTIAL as Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Vandy, etc, etc,. You just have to get the right HC...which is MUCH easier said than done.

The season was cancelled during the conf. tournaments. In fact, some small conf. teams had already secured NCAAT bids. I think's it's reasonable to "claim" LSU would have been in the NCAA Tournament field given there were only 3-4 more days left in the season before selection Sunday. That's a much different discussion than "claiming" a NC.

Cut the BS James. LSU was in the tournament EASILY during the panicdemic year.

Now we could have lost in the first round, won it all, or anything in between, but we were in that tournament if it's played.

We would have also been in each one since then with Wade. Instead we have our current LOSER.

Claiming a tournament appearance for a tournament that never happened would be ridiculous, but none of this has anything to do with 1986 FF team

One of my fondest memories as a kid and LSUBB was when they beat KY in the Elite 8...

Only to get royally fricked by the refs against Louisville.

Why, one would not have happened and one 100% would have. Not analogous at all.

I did not see John Williams or Anthony Wilson. Those were 2 key guys on that team, along with the late Don Redden. That was great season - my junior year at LSU.

Those teams in the eighties were exciting to watch. Fond memories watching LSU basketball with my dad during those years.

Baseball doesn’t claim a tournament appearance for 2020 either.

It’s okay to say basketball has only made the tournament 5x since 06. It’s not like 6 out of 20 is earth shattering either

C'mon man you know as well as anyone we would have been in. I'm not asking the NCAA to count it but I'm saying I count it because it's a fact. That was a tournament team 100% no doubt.

Again, not analogous - the baseball team did not play a full season schedule or even close to be able to determine if they had the resume to easily make it - and if they did I'd count that too - DGAF whether the NCAA did. I said in my post I count it. You don't have to if you don't want to but you know good and well that team was in the tourney and probably a 6-seed.
