in the us there was a demo promotion with gamestop. if you pre-ordered the game you got a code for a demo. but the demo has already been released to everyone on the european playstation store. i just created an account that said i lived in the uk and put 10 downing street as my address and downloaded the demo that way. i think you can get it in the us now without pre-ordering the game. here's how. here are my impressions of the demo that i posted a few weeks ago:

just played the killzone 2 demo. it's very short but sweet. the game looks great, i like the weapons in the demo and the neat medical gun that revives downed teammates, but i'm dizzy from playing it. it's very "jumpy" and the controls aren't super responsive/sensitive but i think i can adjust the sensitivity. seems to be a bit more tactical than COD (the duck behind cover/fire feature is cool) but you can still run and gun. the AI is way better than cod:waw because enemies actually recognize you're there and respond to you. one even yelled f*ck and ran away after i threw a grenade at them can't wait to play more levels and definitely the multiplayer.

feb. 27 is release i believe
there was a demo for those people who preordered through eb i think. There was an open beta for it a couple months ago though.

i fooled around with the multiplayer a bit. quite a clusterf*ck because all the rooms are user created, and so they've all got different rules, maps, and games (body count, assassination, etc). i haven't leveled up enough to get any of the new guns or classes, but i can already tell there won't be as much customization as cod4--or at least, it will take much longer to unlock. besides that, i still don't know how to tell when i've hit someone or when i've gotten a kill. in cod4 and waw you can at least see those little white cross airs when you've hit someone. and in core cod4 and waw the little "+5" or "+10" appears to indicate you've killed an enemy. not so here.
so basically i hate it so far

played it a bit more and yeah, it takes a long time to unlock new classes and guns. not as "fluid" as cod4 or waw's controls, but i'm getting used to them. 32 person games can feel like a clusterF on smaller levels, but i'm digging the fact that the game changes throughout the match--from deathmatch, to assassination, to s and d, etc. liking it a bit more but still outside of my comfort zone
those are my only complaints--the graphics and audio are the tits and the maps are pretty interesting. but shite, two hits and you're dead!?! i've emptied entire clips into people in waw without killing them so it's definitely a change of pace. still don't know exactly when i've hit or killed someone...

is it going to be like fear? that was a pretty good game.

I haven't tried online yet, but the single player is fun. It's not a horror like fear, but throws you in the middle of a war with all kinda stuff going on around you. It's well done in my opinion.

Loving the hell out of it...
Set to alternate 2 for controls and turn the x-axis sensitivity down one notch and it is just like COD4's controls with unlimited run... This game is addicting with the customization....All the possibilities of the new techs with leveling is really cool...

I just bought the game today when I got my PS3, so I haven't played very much. It seems pretty cool so far.

well i have played even more and still have the same complaints in multiplayer: unresponsive controls and no really clear way to discern if you've hit and/or killed an enemy. my biggest complaint, however, is with the responsiveness of the controls. changing the sensitivity hasn't helped. i have heard people describe this lack of fluidity as "weight" added to the game to render it more realistic but in fact it makes it nearly unplayable. apparently, i'm not the only one with these complaints.
killzone 2 multiplayer: great game hurt by controls?
this guy has found delays and what he calls "deadzones" in the controls. here are some excerpts:
i really wanna like this game, and not only because i dropped $65 on it. but has anyone else had a similar experience with the controls?

quote:
Let me preface this entire article by saying: I really like Killzone 2. A lot. The multiplayer is great and I spent a lot of my weekend playing the game online. That doesn't mean that I don't have a problem with the game's controls, which have a hardcoded delay and a considerable deadzone on the analog stick.
quote:
Why would you ever ADD lag to your game? Since the dawn of multiplayer gaming, we've been fighting a war against lag. We play video games for 1:1 controls. Adding lag is one of the worst design choices ever. Guerrilla Games was attempting to add weight to the character, but all it does is hurt the way the player actually controls the game.
Think about trying to line-up a quick headshot. You move the analog stick to the right, but overshoot the person just a tad bit so you let off the stick. You've just racked up two instances of the input lag. Now, you re-aim, hitting left on the stick. Another piece of input lag on top of the pile. While the controller is sweeping back across their head, you hit fire! Except, by the time the game registers the shot, your controller has moved beyond your target. Now, you attempt to readjust, but you're still going to be dealing with the lag. By the end of that, you're running a delay of about half a second, which is like pinging 500ms to the server.
i really wanna like this game, and not only because i dropped $65 on it. but has anyone else had a similar experience with the controls?

for the first 30 minutes and then it clicked...

I've never had a problem with noticing when i've gotten a kill. Also, I think the controls are fine. It's a bit harder to kill people, but as with most of the actions in the game, it DOES keep it realistic. Sure, CoD4 controls are a lot easier to work with, but that takes away from it. I find it a bit more fun when you have to trade in twitch for tactics.
