Local officials in Tangipahoa Parish say they have little information about a possible detention facility for people arrested by ICE that the Washington Post has reported could be built in Hammond as part of efforts by President Donald Trump's administration to speed up deportations.

Based on internal documents from Immigration and Custom Enforcement, the Post reported on Dec. 24 that the Trump administration was planning to build seven detention centers in industrial warehouses around the country to hold 80,000 immigrant detainees, identifying Hammond as one of the sites. The centers would serve as staging grounds for deportation, the Post reported.

The warehouse facility in Hammond would house 9,000 people, the Post said, but it was not clear where the facility would be or when construction would begin. The Post reviewed a draft solicitation for contractors, but it was not final and was subject to changes, the Post said.

"I do not know any details of site location and or accuracy of the Post article. I have not received any information from the Feds on a proposed site," said Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller in a statement.
