I have the opportunity to buy a Samsung gear VR headset at a discounted price for my 8 year old son. My limited research shows that the headset is discontinued. Is it worth purchasing for $40? Can you still download games to it?

Samsung ended support for it a while ago. I had one like 10 yeara ago and it was a neat intro into VR using your phone as a display but it would drain my battery in 30 minutes and really heat up my phone. I wouldnit waste any money on it now as Im ot even sure if the apps are still functioning. If you want to try VR the best entry level would be a Quest 3 or maybe a used Quest 2...but I would not let my 8 year old mess w8th without close super vision as they are fairly delicate devices...

The big problem with VR that I found was that in the lobbies of games, you hear wildly inappropriate shite. Some from teenager trash talking, some clearly from creepy arse adults. It took four minutes of setting up my similarly aged son's Quest years ago to figure this out. He abandoned it within about two weeks, and it was never used again.

Neither of my 13 or 11 year olds are allowed to have audio in any game now.

All the troons use it. How do i know? Every troon i encounter on other games bring up VR chat at some point.

Mines 13, used the quest 1 when he was 8 to play beatsaber, eventually broke a joycon and has never expressed interest in getting it fixed or a new one.
