How much are the Colts set back after not making playoffs?

Gave up a haul for Sauce, 2 1st rounders
Not sure if Jones can return to his form after Achilles
Ward has had 3 concussions in the season, was placed on IR
Need OLine help badly
At time of the Gardner trade many said the price was too high, but you could understand the reasoning, as the Colts were 8-2 at one time.

It doesn’t look good on paper.
Have to Hope jones can rebound from that Achilles or they hit the jackpot on a QB in the mid rounds of the draft.
I think Steichen is a really good coach, but his hands are full now.

The NFL is so fluid it's hard to project. That said the Colts are in great shape regarding the cap over the next three years. They'll have something like $35 million + in free space next year and even more the two following. They also only have $2 million in dead money (for reference the Jets have $71 million in dead money). Say what you will about Carly Irsay, she and her front office are great at managing and working the cap.
If they make a couple of solid draft decisions, have players come back healthy and sign some key free agents, they'll be in great shape. They definitely have a lot more flexibility than most teams.

I am interested to see what they do as Ballard/Steichen were on very warm seats heading into the year and Irsay’s daughter seemed to be looking for reasons to clean house, but I think they have a very valid case to keep their jobs despite missing the playoffs again.
The roster isn’t bad but they now don’t have a ton of draft capital and the almost annual QB question for the Colts is there again.

They are going to need that cap space for a QB, Anthony Richardson is the only one under contract.

Crazy how different things looked less than 2 months ago for them.

I bet they regret that sauce now. I thought it seemed high.

quote:the big problem was Indy was just getting to the hard part of their schedule, DJ was fools gold that benefited n easy schedule. The gm screwed up on the trade for Sauce, they probably still weren’t winning the division or making the playoffs with DJ healthy.
