I need ideas to transform the outdoor space in the patio / pool area with new flowerbeds. Everytime I try to add my own flowers / plants, I fail pretty miserably. Might be time to bring in a professonal.

start with the soil not with the plants.
planting success is soil, sun and water. Do some observation and some research before you call a landscaper. Look at a bunch of pictures etc and decide generally what you want and why.
In my view a professional is needed when you can’t or don’t have the time to do it yourself and if you are there you’ll be in a much better position if you have some knowledge beforehand.
there’s tons of good landscapers in BR one that I have used often is PPI they are good people and do good work. In all cases insist on bed preparation and soil composition being job one

Give Josh at Greenscape Design a call. We have had him do a handful of projects for us and we have been overly pleased with the quality of work every time

ditto on Samson...local people, small group, LSU Landscape degree and understands drainage. Amazing number of operations don't understand that water flows downhill.
