Hey. Appreciate the help. What’s the most user friendly? I’m gonna try to hang around, learn a little, and help.
Or should I just stay out of the way?
Thanks

So you bought your kid a guitar for Christmas and your wife said "he needs lessons".
That's how I'm reading this.
Is child already hot on stuff and figuring it out on his/her own?

The real pain is going to be in the fingers and the hands. Just doing the basic chords and maybe some scales if you want to get fancy, the kid's hand are going to hurt very quickly, and there's no lesson to get around that. Until the callouses are formed and the muscle memories built in the hands, nothing will launch in guitar playing.
Edit to add- my kid switched from guitar to keyboard because his hands couldn't handle it. Maybe when he hits puberty he'll pick up a guitar again. But it is hard, physically, and there's not online course that can get you over that hump.

Yeah I mean the guitar sounds like shite when you can’t hold the strings down correctly, and it hurts like shite to do it without calluses. And you can’t get calluses without it hurting like shite and sounding like shite for a while haha. It’s a bit of a vicious circle the first couple of months of playing guitar. I took lessons when I was young and hated it, then when I wanted to I taught myself and really did it.

Right on! I have four boys three of which play the guitar. All of them were started on keyboards. The fourth is just starting on keyboards now and he is six years old.

Curious as to where you are located? My 9 year old has been playing about a year and a half and also drums for about 4 years and getting a good base at that age with in person lessons has been huge. He is now to the point where he knows enough to that he can go on Ultimate Guitar and teach himself songs.
